A list of terms and brands used in the fashion and clothing industry.

Brands & Labels

Addict Clothing - Addict clothing are a British Streetwear label established in Southampton. Addict are well known for their use of camouflage styles on their t-shirts and jackets and their collaborations with street artists.

Ambiguous Clothing - Ambiguous Clothing are a brand that deal with snow and skate wear. Ambiguous Clothing are known for their original t-shirt styles.

Amplified - Amplified clothing started in 2004 and are best known as the streetwear brand that produced the diamante Rolling Stones tongue t-shirt.

Cheap Monday - Cheap Monday started in Sweden back in 2005 and the Cheap Monday skull logo quickly became easily recognisable. Cheap Monday are known for their range of skinny jeans.

Criminal Clothing - Criminal Clothing started in the UK and they have been inspired by UK street culture and as a result Criminal Clothing have managed to mix cutting edge urban desings and vintage styles

Eastpak - Eastpak are well known for their wide range of versatile tough wearing bags. Eastpak bags are built to resist and have been since they started in the 60's.

Fly53 - Fly53 was founded by Will Rigg in the middle of the 90's when they launched a range of limited edition t-shirts. Fly53 claim to be outfitters for the resistance and make a great range of streetwear clothing.

55DSL - 55DSL was a spin off from the Diesel brand but 55DSL has since established itself in its own right as a more alternative brand to Diesel.

Gentle Fawn - Gentle Fawn was founded in 2003 and the Gentle Fawn name was inspired by ceramic fawn models which are the basis for the Gentle Fawn logo. Gentle Fawn produce a fine selection of clothing with visionary designs that seperate them from their rivals.

MbyM - MbyM are a fairly new label from Denmark. MbyM focus on womens clothing with a wide range of floral designs and looks.

Numph - Numph is a clothing label from Denmark named after nymphs from fairytales because their clothing isa mix of rough, feminenine, complex and vunerable traits.

Obey - Obey is another US based clothing brand that started in 1989. Obey Clothing are known for their street art designs as well as being involved in the street art scene. You can frequently see Obey street art in most of the major cities around the world.

Original Penguin - Original Penguin started way back in the 1950's with the Original Penguin golf shirt. They have since expanded to incorporate a full range of Original Penguin clothing.

Paul Frank - Paul Frank was established in California back in the 1990's. Paul Frank are known for their range of accessories and t-shirts that feature all the different Paul Frank characters like Julius the Monkey.

SupremeBeing - SupremeBeing are a streetwear fashion label from Cambridge, UK. Supreme Being produce innovative T-shirt designs and logos.

WESC - WESC stands for We are the Superlative Conspiracy and this Swedish streetwear clothing brand claim to make clothing for intellectual slackers. They are known for their fresh t-shirt design as well as their high quality WESC headphones.

Fashion and Clothing Terms

Burlesque Hosiery - Burlesque Hosiery is a term to describe a certain style of stockings and underwear worn and used in burlesque shows.

Corset - A corset is clothing which helps to give a more curvy figure. Traditionaly a corset does this by reducing the waist and pushing out the bust and hips.

Hosiery - Hosiery is a general term for items of clothing that are worn on the feet and legs. The term hosiery however is more commonly used to describe stockings, tights and panty hose.

Seamed Stockings - Seamed stockings are also known as fully fashioned stockings. These are stockings that are made from 2 pieces of flat material that are then sown together which then produces a seam up the back. Seamed stockings were the most popular type of stocking until the 1960's.

Shapewear - Many women have bumps and bits of their body that they are unhappy with. Shapewear is the solution. Shapewear is a form of underwear that tucks in the parts that shouldn't stick out, much like a corset or waist cinchers.

Stockings - Stockings are close fitting, elasticated clothing garments that are worn on the feet and legs.

Streetwear - The term Streetwear is used to describe urban clothing that has been influenced by and produced in metropolitain cities. Streetwear designers tend to incorporate city styles such as graffiti into their designs.

Underbust Corset - An underbust corset is a corset that begins at the bust and extends down to the hips.

Urban Clothing - Urban clothing or Urban Wear are terms used to describe clothing that comes from inner city locations. Many Urban Clothing lines have been started by Hip Hop and Rap artists.

Vintage Corset - A vintage corset is based on traditional corset designs like those seen in period dramas. Vintage corsets tend to be very tight around the waist and enhance a womens bust.

Vintage Lingerie - Vintage Lingerie is a term used to describe retro styled lingerie remeisant of the 1940's and 50's.

Waist Cinchers - Waist Cinchers are a smaller version of a corset which focus on the waist. Waist cinchers extend from the bottom of the ribs to the hips.
